Welcome to AUC

The African Union of Conservationists is one credible Pan African organisation with a desirable conservation framework for new frontiers in natural resources management interwoven with a capacity to research environmental problems. Without a doubt, it is one of the few remaining in conservation biology in Sub Saharan Africa.
Mr. Takuo Mitchelle
African Union of Conservationists is the only union that endeavored to reach out to grass root conservators with enthusiasm, a practice that should be done by all conservation scientists. AUC has fitted well in the past decade by enlightening conservation scientists in the region which backs up one of the most significant reasons for the union’s existence.
Mr. Stephen Ssemwaka
Stephen Ssemwaka is a passionate ecologist dedicated to biodiversity conservation. As the
Biodiversity Conservation Officer at AUC, his work focuses on developing and implementing
conservation projects that address key environmental challenges, with a particular emphasis on
species conservation, habitat restoration, and community engagement.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Environment and Natural Resources at Makerere
University. His research explores the impact of the invasive Lantana camara on native plant
species, mammals, and avifauna diversity in Katonga Wildlife Reserve.
Stephen is also leading a conservation project funded by the Mohamed bin Zayed Species
Conservation Fund, focusing on the status of the Albertine Rift endemic Uganda Clawed Frog
(Xenopus ruwenzoriensis). This project assesses the species’ presence in Semuliki National Park,
Rwenzori Mountains National Park, and Budongo Central Forest Reserve, models the potential
impacts of climate change on its distribution, and engages local communities in amphibian and
wetland conservation efforts.

The African Union of Conservationists (AUC) proposes to organize and host the African Conservation Conference (ACC) that should bring out a platform to address conservation challenges in Africa. The ACC will be the only African regional conference aimed entirely at conservationists, practitioners, researchers, developers, African governments
During his recent visit to Uganda, Prof. L. S. Shashidhara, Director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences and Professor of Biology at IISER Pune, India, engaged with key institutional representatives. He met with the Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), the Heads of the Departments of Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Resources (WAAR) and Zoology, Entomology, and Fisheries Sciences (ZEFS) at Makerere University Kampala, as well as the Ambassador of the Indian High Commission in Kampala.
Considering rapid development and globalization today there has been a shift among professionals going for better opportunities. This has left a gap in conservation and development and is not finely distributed. We are dedicated to establishing cross-cutting capacity building, to enhance documentation and …
AUC joined the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS) in 2013. It was nominated a member of the month, December 2013 among other benefits that have brought the union to the forefront of conservation in Africa. IUBS was the first union that elevated AUC …
Solve Africa’s most pressing problems through; innovative research, rigorous research capacity and technical skills, high quality data and support infrastructure, established research sharing mechanisms, and shared values on Open Science and FAIR Data
AUC focuses on strengthening its relationships with member governments in Africa jurisdictions through line ministries, and in increasing the interactions as inter‐governmental relations that allow local conservation organizations have an impact.
Africa is most vulnerable to shocks and stresses which have increasingly become common not only in rural poor areas but also in fragile ecologically sensitive areas. Some of these can be short while others can be long term and they normally compromise the welfare.
We are devising means of participation in AU meetings and summits organized in Africa. Although this may prove hard, approaches will be designed until a platform is available for AUC integration in the AU environmental conservation programs at any considerable level.
